Do you see the ocean’s blue,
the foam the waves the seashells too?

Do you hear the wind palm trees,
the salty air blown cross the seas?

Will you walk the sands bare feet,
and feel the water there to greet?

Will you sit and ponder why,
God made the sea to match the sky?

Looking back over the years,
it seems not long ago.
I was so much younger than,
I knew a lot you know.

The days the hours they passed me by,
I thought they passed so slow.
Now I know they passed so fast,
each day a new plateau.

Cast a shell into the sea,
palm trees sway by gentle breeze.

The ocean roar, a peaceful sound.
Solitude and grace, there to be found.

The sand and surf a salty mist.
The sunsets seen; I do so miss.

Love in ways like ocean waves they rock and roll each day;
up and down and all around they move us as they may;
remind me now for I fall prey to love with gentle sway;
sometimes we fail no wind in sail time heals is what they say.

Ever walk, a hill to see, a rainbow’s colors, a mountain stream?

Ever skim, a rock cross pond, or hear the song, of the whippoorwill?

Ever long, for loving words, a friend can send, I love you now and always will?

Of this we know, a kindness kindles, a tender heart, soft words on pillow….

Ever walk, a hill to see, a rainbow’s colors, a mountain stream?

Ever skim, a rock cross pond, or hear the song, of the whippoorwill?

Ever long, for loving words, a friend can send, I love you now and always will?

KENTON J. RUNYON

In loving memory. 06.28.2019

All is oh so quiet now, his songs are now at rest.
The strings once strummed no longer sing, our Kenny was the best.
His life of struggle has come to end, he’s now in eternal rest.
Farewell for now, you’re one of a kind, Heaven’s band is now the best.

NO TIME TO GRIEVE

When I look back, it’s hard to believe,
where’d time go, it is no time to grieve.
You see it pass, like summer leaves,
the fall winds they face, onto ground, into sheaves.
Time marches on, and we can look up or we can look down.
When you look back, will you smile…. or will you frown…

WHISPERING WINDS

Whispering wind, among the trees,
of salt and sand, a lonely breeze.

Remember those, who gave up all,
On this beach, in France, named Omaha.

Again, we are tested, our courage, our resolve.
Let not fear, overtake us all.

Be strong, my friends, live another day.
Show the world, we are strong, the USA

GRAY AND MISTY MORN

Oh, gray and misty morning, where art thou skies of blue?
We’ll take the snow a-melting, and feel thy heavy dew.

Mom Nature you have blessed us, with colors so impressed,
when will you bring us summer, and end these feelings depressed?

A TRIBUTE TO GREGORY “WADE” FRANCK

Come ride the ride you’re not alone; you’ll ride alone with me.
The trail is wide, it’s wide enough, for all the things we’ll see.
In spirit share the things we share, so come and share with me.
Come ride the trail and know I’m there my spirit you will see.

THE WINDS

The winds do blow the leaves from trees they scatter far and wide.
The air it’s crisp we feel fall’s grip the trail is where I ride.
My bike you see it sets me free to see the changing tide.
Of seasons the fun no summer sun the cold I want to hide.

COLORS

Colors cast cross deep blue skies like birds do dance and sing.
The kite it prances aloft it’s held by 30-pound nylon string.
Up and down and all around the wind it does its thing.
I wave and flail my arms to sail the foil that is a wing.
Come learn I’m here to cast aloft my kites I love to bring.
The joy it brings to feel the wind thank God it’s finally spring.

SINGING SAILS

The sails they sing, they fly from string
bright colors cross the sky.

They dance and prance in noble trance
set high above oh my.

Dear kite catch wind, I cast adrift
my hands they set you free.

Be safe in flight, save me the fright
and dare not touch the tree.

RUSHING WINDS A WISTFUL SOUND

Rushing fall winds whisper wistful sound…
trees cast their leaves about the ground.
The smell of fall is here you see
seasons change how it tickles me.

A SPIDER’S WEB

A spider’s web the secret said where will the rainbow end?
A pot of gold no tale untold the letter we must send.
Hear me now my friend somehow forgive and come to me.
Life’s too short and tough to sort take care and do not flee.

ONE LAST TIME

One last time I’ll climb the stairs, the steps of marble worn.

My colleagues there in ties and dress, one last December morn.

Clients, families, deputies too, sitting, standing they look for you.

The bench to the office, to home and back, my files my desk it’s time I pack.

“All rise” Jackie says, I hear once more, Judge takes the bench, he has the floor.

My final words, they are all mine, I’ll say and pray, this final time.

My career was long, and along the way, lawyers and clients, they made my day.

I won’t forget you, ‘tis not in haste, for the final time…… I rest my case.

HER MARBLE COLUMNS

Her marble columns, so big and tall, bring your sick, they beckon all.
All persons special, big and small, come one come all, to Mayo’s hall.
Doctors, nurses and staff they care. Much time well spent, invested there.
Blood tests, x-rays, camera clues, check my neck, my tongue my tonsils too.
Feel my throat now swallow hard, gag me till my lips turn blue.
Now it’s over, now I’m through. I made it finally, I paid my due.
They send me home, one final time, we shed a tear, they said take care.
So bye old friends, I hold so dear, I’ll never forget you, the coast is clear.

I wrote this poem upon my discharge from Mayo Clinic following five years of follow-up concerning my bout with tongue cancer.

30 YEARS

On this day, 30 years ago, I got to say, I told you so.
I managed to pass, an exam you see, and for my advice, I could charge a fee.
Sworn in to practice, with wife in tow, baby at home and no cash flow.
College debt and bills, piled oh so high, paid off in full, it took a try.
Without Val’s help, what I am today, I’d be digging ditches, so thanks I say.

VIOLET, ADALYN AND WINNIE TOO

Violet, Adalyn … Winnie too…
you know we love you, you know ‘tis true.
Your grandmas and grandpas, in Heaven above,
look down upon you, their hearts so full of love.
It’s hard to believe, and just yesterday it seems,
you entered the world, your parents their dreams.
So listen up, cherish each day, every one,
tomorrow comes quick, you should follow the sun.

BEANS AND CORN

This land of fields of beans and corn,
a land of hills and streams.
This land of loving people adorned,
a place called field of dreams.

Come visit sometime and stay awhile,
walk barefoot on our soft green sod..
You’ll find true peace and then you’ll smile,
this land touched gently … by the hand of God.

TEARS

No shortage seen, of smiles or cheers,
abundant yes, but what about tears…
They scream and stream, our faces show,
but what’s inside, what do we know?
As friends, we should, hear them out…
heed their call, let them spout.
You never know, when times are tough,
will you listen, will it be enough.
Your shoulders strong, stay in touch,
they need you now, it’s not too much.

OCEAN MIST

Ocean mist on sandy shore the waves their crashing sound.
Bring me peace and hear my voice my wish I hope is found.
Sand and salt it’s not a fault it’s what we feel and see.
When gazing to the deep dark blue your waves they set me free.

THE VAST UNKNOWN

What is it we fear, of the vast unknown…
life seems safe, when we’re at home.
So what would you seek, if you go you may find,
a place found in peace, where you can rest your mind.
I think that’s my goal, that place unknown…
In the desert or forest, away from the phone.
When I head that way, I will let you know,
You can bet I will be, far from the snow!

THE SEA THE SALT

Clouds above the sea so gray,
mark the end of gorgeous day.
Smell the sea the salt the sand,
God reaches out His loving hand.

SHELLS AND SHORES

Walk along the shell lined shore,
feel the breeze; the ocean’s roar.
Cast your worries to the wind,
nice to have, many a friend.

DREAMS AND WISHES

Dreams or wishes, which come true…
help you find the youth in you.
Heavens, clouds the sun does shine…
will my dream come true in time…
Bless the day for it is cast…
in blues and golds that fade too fast.
Enjoy this time and think aloud…
dreams come true look to the clouds…

PEACEFUL SOUNDS

Peaceful sounds, a gentle breeze,
birds that sing, amongst the trees.
Fall has come, you see the leaves,
squirrels hide acorns, before the freeze.

Enjoy this time, comes once a day,
each day anew, with love let’s say.
Join me now, in thankful praise,
it’s quite a view, these gorgeous days.

SAY YOU’RE SORRY

They say that “sorry” is the hardest word…
but try saying “goodbye” and I think you’ll find…
Leaving family and friends is harder I heard…
Randy and Jan, dear friends ever so kind…

BLUE MEETS BLUE

Where blue meets blue, the sun and the sea.
Where oceans meet land, that’s where I’d rather be.

How deep is your soul; how tender your heart?
Loss takes a toll; seek out a new start.

Go there and find; the happiness you seek.
Be brave and strong, and carry the weak…

SNOW AND DREAMS

Let not snow, cast away your dreams.
Take your T@B, to fields and streams.

Find a road, a path to take.
Guide her well, to the nearest lake.

Camping knows no season, it is said.
Now lead the way, to the campfire fed.

Find your peace, Mandy Lea has shown.
And leave behind, that gulldang fone!

CAMPING

Alde, tongue weight, batteries too.
How do you fix your morning brew?

TVs, bike racks, statistics, screws.
Does anybody have, ÜCamp news?

Solar, bed size, tires and trim.
What’s the best way, to make lights dim?

12 volts, 30 amps, fuses, lube.
Bob Peloquin called me a T@Bular noob!

DERECHO

Mother Nature, what did we do?
Did we do something, to mess with you?
What’s with the wind, so crazy fast?
They called it “derecho”, a pain in the …
What can we do, to make it up to you?
You keep the tornados, give us skies of blue?
Or send us some rain, we sure need some,
but please leave behind, that lightning’s no fun!
It’s been hot and humid; you make it no fun.
When we go outside, we bake in the sun.
Us Iowans, as you know, we’re usually quite tough.
But what you have thrown lately, enough is enough.
My dear Mother Nature, we can’t take much more.
If you don’t simmer down, we’ll show you the door!

FLEE THE SNOW

What is it we fear, in the vast unknown…
life seems safe, when we’re at home.
So what would you seek, if you go you may find,
a place found in peace, where you can rest your mind.
I think that’s my goal, that place unknown…
In the desert or forest, away from the phone.
When I head that way, I will let you know,
You can bet I will be, far away from the snow!

Adalyn Everly

Have you ever needed, a shot in the arm?

Have you found yourself lost, in the midst of a storm?

We’ve all been there, oh haven’t we so?

We weather the storm; we go with the flow.

She came along, I had no say.

She came along, to save the day.

My Adalyn Everly; my princess so sweet.

She sure has done it, swept me off my feet.

It’s Cold

Cold and clear the clouds appear and snow falls from the sky…

Bones will break and backs will ache some love the winter why?

Frostbite and ice skate sled and slide, the things we will not try…

My plan I think I won’t deny it’s time to go and fly,,,

I hate the cold and winter chill we’ll see you soon bye bye.

The Surf The Beach

The surf the sun the beach so fun

when will we find the way…

We run and gun until we’re done

and then we all will say…

Time passes fast life doesn’t last

so enjoy each passing day…

For we know not what we say what’s up

and then we hit the hay!

She never gives up her dead…

There’s something about, the deep blue sea.
Something about it, it captures me.

It sings a song, on gentle breeze
A song that sings, among swaying trees.

I think I want, to set a sail.
To hear that song, that tells a tale.

Come with me, come with me, I’ll set you free.
Your soul is mine, so says the sea.
